Vintage Star Quilt Pattern Giveaway

Posting two days in a row, what is wrong with me. Today I'm going to show you another new pattern by Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs. This woman is on a roll designing and  her patterns are just so wonderful. I love so many things about her patterns, this one comes in two sizes and is layer cake friendly. Who doesn't love using precuts!!!!  The pattern today is called Vintage Star and is simply beautiful.

The lap size of this one can be made with one layer cake. I love the fabric she used for her sample, it is Marmalade by Bonnie and Camille. I wish I had a layer cake of that fabric to make one for me. Now Cheryl is being very generous and allowing me to give away a copy of this pattern. To be in the drawing simply leave a comment on this post. If you don't know what to say, tell me your favorite fabric line (past or present). If you follow me leave another comment for a second chance to win. If you want more chances check out Cheryl's Blog for other's with giveaways. And if you can't wait to get your hands on this pattern, it is currently on sale until Oct. 4th at Cheryl's Esty and Craftsy store.

Pattern Checking And A Giveaway.

I'm not sure what has happened to my blogging mojo lately, but it is definitely missing. And although I'm not writing as much I am still reading blogs and I was lucky enough to get the chance to proof a pattern for fellow blogger Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs. I love her patterns, they are always easy to read and follow and Check Plus is such an awesome pattern. I love patterns that come with different size options and this one has four choices, baby, lap, twin and king and it is fat quarter friendly.

Proofing is fun for me, it is something I used to do for my job on a regular basis and I miss it. So whenever I get a chance to proof patterns for Cheryl I jump on it. Now something I love about this pattern is she includes a coloring diagram so you can play with your color choices. I have fabric picked out to make this one, but have to get through my Christmas present making first.

Now Cheryl has this pattern on sale until October 3 for 25% off and you can get it in her Esty or Craftsy store. And she has been kind enough to let me offer this pattern in a giveaway. It is open to everyone, everywhere, just leave a comment on this post, any comment will do but if you need a prompt, tell what you're working on right now.  You can get extra chances if you visit Cheryl's Blog and see the others hosting giveaways. And if you follow me leave a comment telling me how you follow for an additional entry.  I will pick a winner next Monday.

Winner and New Giveaway!!!

Happy Friday everyone!!! I wish I were showing another Friday finish, but this week I had too many things on my plate. I did get a little sewing done and some behind the scenes stuff on another project I can't show you yet.  But be that as it may, we still have a very exciting day, because I'm going to announce the winner of the Grande Scrappy Tiles giveaway. Plus the lovely Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs is letting me giveaway another of her patterns. So let's get started.

I had 69 entries for the Grande Scrappy Tile pattern. It was so much fun reading about what everyone is working on right now. I will say those who are busy organizing, that isn't fun, but it makes working so much easier. In case you don't remember here is my Grande Scrappy Tiles quilt

And the Random.org generator picked lucky number 4, you know the saying the early bird gets the worm...or in this case the pattern.

I've contacted Tanya and will be sending her the pattern shortly. For all of you who did not win, the pattern is on sale through July 4th for $6.00.  You can find it on Etsy (Here), Craftsy (Here) or Payhip (Here).

Now when I tested the Grande Scrappy Tiles pattern I also had the chance to proof the pattern Sea Star. I really liked this pattern and seriously thought about doing it instead of the one above. I'm a sucker for plus quilts and this one is just so pretty.  Cheryl did hers in solids which is awesome and just screams sea to me.

I have put this on my bucket list to make, but I think I want to mine in shades of purple and grey. I think this would make a great quilt for a guy. I keep talking about doing a quilt for my nephew and this just might have his name written on it.

Cheryl has graciously allow me to give away a copy of this pattern as well.  So leave me a comment and tell me what colors you would use for this pattern.  Also if you are a follower (new or old) leave a second comment letting me know how you follow me.  I will draw a name next Thursday night. Now if you love this pattern and can't wait to get started on it or if you don't win. Cheryl has it on sale for the next two weeks for $6.00 on Etsy (Here), Craftsy (Here) or Payhip (Here).

Also if you don't follow Cheryl @ Meadow Mist Designs you might not know that she is leading a mystery quilt-a-long called Midnight Mystery Quilt. So far she has only given out the fabric requirements, so there is still plenty of time to join.  She has a Facebook group for the QAL and it has been totally awesome seeing the fabrics everyone is choosing.  We even a few people doing to versions.

Friday Finish: Grande Scrappy Tiles Reveal & Giveaway

I am beyond thrilled to be showing ya'll a finished quilt today. It is my first finish in forever, and it is not only pieced, it is quilted, labeled and bound.  Whoo hoo!!!  In mid April Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs asked if I would test a pattern for her.  I immediately said yes, because I love her patterns, and I loved the preview. She actually had two patterns to test and I loved both, but knew I would only be able to make one in the time frame. So I picked Grande Scrappy Tiles.

Scrappy is something I love, but it is hard for me to execute for some reason. But Cheryl makes it easy. The pattern is written so you can use fat quarters, 1/4 yard cuts or plain yardage.  I knew I wanted to use my stash so I used the 1/4 yard cuts. I used fabric left over from another quilt, and this is what the end results looks like.

I love purples and pinks and so it was fun to pick through my stash and come up with 24 different fabrics. This is the lap size quilt and it was 72 x 72 before quilting and washing, but I don't know what it is now because I forgot to measure it.  The design of this pattern is great for those large scale prints and it goes together super quick. The blocks are 24 1/2" by 24 1/2", so the lap quilt only needs 9 blocks.  I plan to make this pattern again in the queen size for my bed.

Cheryl does a great job on her patterns, explaining everything clearly, and she color coded the block assembly so you can put it together easily.  I think the hardest thing for me was picking the fabrics for each block. I'm just a bit picky and I didn't want the same fabric twice in any one block.  I got down to the last block and had the same fabric three times, so I had to do some switching.  But that is more my problem than anything to do with the pattern.

I had to piece the back, but I wanted it to be pretty simple, so a simple row of blocks worked for me. I started to do a more scrappy back, but I thought with the front scrappy, a simple back would work better.  I am quite happy with how it looks, and this photo shows the crinkly look, which is my favorite part.

The quilting is simple loops.  Since I was out of practice I wanted something I knew I could do, and I like loops. So loops it was, and I tried to make them a mix of sizes.  I used a lavender thread that blended on some blocks and stood out on others, which I thought looked cool.

Now I'm sure you are wondering about the giveaway, well the wonderful Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs is letting me giveaway a copy of Grande Scrappy Tiles to one of you lucky people.  To enter leave me a comment and tell me what you are working on at the moment.  If you are a follower, new or old, leave a second comment telling me how you follow. I will draw the lucky winner next Thursday. Now if you just can't wait to get your hands on a copy of this pattern or if you aren't the lucky winner, it is on sale for the next two weeks (until July 4th) for $6.00.  You can find it on Etsy (Here), Craftsy (Here) or Payhip (Here). If you want to see other versions of it, check out Meadow Mist Designs.

Grow Your Blog 2015 & Giveaway

Hello world!!!  Since I'm participating in the "Grow Your Blog 2015" being lead by 2 Bags Full. I'm thinking most of you are stopping by from there and are new to my blog. If you are a current follower, I hope I don't bore you with things you already know, but either way make sure you read to the bottom to participate in my giveaway.

I will start by telling you a little bit about me.  I'm Shauna (bet you could have guessed that one) and I live in Texas, just north of Dallas.  I started blogging about 6 years ago as a way to show off my digital scrapbook pages and still show some of them, but now I mainly show mine and my sisters quilting accomplishments.  I am what I like to call an advanced beginner, I am trying to learn more and more. Now a little more about me personally.  I'm single, but have quite the menagerie at my house. Besides me there is my sister, Sharla (she quilts too), my nephew Cole (he doesn't quilt), and our three dogs, Tucker (yorkie), Zoey (shih tzu), and Hollywood (lab mix). If my sister had her way we would have a couple more dogs, but I'm holding firm that three is enough for now.  Tucker is my quilt dog, he loves them and I have to be careful when I'm ironing because if any fabric hits the floor he tries to make a bed on it.  The funny thing is that he is blind, but can always find a quilt if I'm working on it. Just so you can put faces to names, this is us.

On this blog I talk about my current projects, along with goals I set for myself, stash purchases and bee blocks I've made.  I have participated in quilt alongs, tested quilts for designers and even donated some of my work for charity.  My favorite thing from last year was the Texas Road Trip Quilt Along, and I hope to finish my quilt this year.  I got the basic top done, but need to add borders and then quilt it.

The favorite quilt I finished last year was the Looking Glass quilt I did as a test quilt for Meadow Mist Designs. I love the colors in it and I smile every time I see it. I want to do another on that is queen sized to go on my bed, but I have lots of projects in front of it.

If you decide you want to follow my crazy life, let me tell you what you might see this year. I keep a spreadsheet of projects and currently I have 26 quilts where I've purchased fabric and Sharla has 30, so we have to get busy and get piecing.  We also have 17 tops that are completed and ready to be quilted, so you will see all kinds of quilts. So that is 56 on the books as of right now.  You have probably realized about now that I love fabric and I do mean LOVE. I'm currently working on 4 memory quilts for a friend and her children, as well as a cross quilt that I picked as the blocks to receive as my time as queen in the Compass Quilters Bee.  I just finished a quilt this week that I was testing for a designer and will get to show it off soon.  I will also be showing some scrapbook pages and who knows what else.

Now that you've gotten to know me a little, let's talk about a giveaway.  I was lucky enough to win not one but two copies of 100 block Vol 10, so I'm giving one away. It is packed with great blocks!!! I thought I would sweeten the pot just a little by adding a charm pack of Cookies and Cream by RJR Fabrics and an alphabet panel. I bought two assorted fat packs from Massdrop at the end of last year and both had the same panel in them.  So I thought I would share one with ya'll. The selvage says it is Petite Fleur by Carolyn Gavin by Windham Fabrics. Since I'm not sure how I'm going to use mine, I would love to hear how  you would use it.

The giveaway is open to everyone and all you have to do to enter is leave a comment.  I love hearing where everyone is from, so why don't you tell me where you live and what the weather is like today. The giveaway will be open until noon (Central Standard Time) on February 15th and I will use a random number generator to pick a winner that afternoon/evening.  Now you don't have to follow me to enter, but if you want to follow me there are buttons on the side for Bloglovin, Feedly and follow by email. If you've not checked out Vicki's site at 2 Bags Full, you really should the blog hop is huge and there are lots of people holding giveaways.
