Hello world!!! Since I'm participating in the "Grow Your Blog 2015" being lead by 2 Bags Full. I'm thinking most of you are stopping by from there and are new to my blog. If you are a current follower, I hope I don't bore you with things you already know, but either way make sure you read to the bottom to participate in my giveaway.
I will start by telling you a little bit about me. I'm Shauna (bet you could have guessed that one) and I live in Texas, just north of Dallas. I started blogging about 6 years ago as a way to show off my digital scrapbook pages and still show some of them, but now I mainly show mine and my sisters quilting accomplishments. I am what I like to call an advanced beginner, I am trying to learn more and more. Now a little more about me personally. I'm single, but have quite the menagerie at my house. Besides me there is my sister, Sharla (she quilts too), my nephew Cole (he doesn't quilt), and our three dogs, Tucker (yorkie), Zoey (shih tzu), and Hollywood (lab mix). If my sister had her way we would have a couple more dogs, but I'm holding firm that three is enough for now. Tucker is my quilt dog, he loves them and I have to be careful when I'm ironing because if any fabric hits the floor he tries to make a bed on it. The funny thing is that he is blind, but can always find a quilt if I'm working on it. Just so you can put faces to names, this is us.
On this blog I talk about my current projects, along with goals I set for myself, stash purchases and bee blocks I've made. I have participated in quilt alongs, tested quilts for designers and even donated some of my work for charity. My favorite thing from last year was the Texas Road Trip Quilt Along, and I hope to finish my quilt this year. I got the basic top done, but need to add borders and then quilt it.
The favorite quilt I finished last year was the Looking Glass quilt I did as a test quilt for Meadow Mist Designs. I love the colors in it and I smile every time I see it. I want to do another on that is queen sized to go on my bed, but I have lots of projects in front of it.
If you decide you want to follow my crazy life, let me tell you what you might see this year. I keep a spreadsheet of projects and currently I have 26 quilts where I've purchased fabric and Sharla has 30, so we have to get busy and get piecing. We also have 17 tops that are completed and ready to be quilted, so you will see all kinds of quilts. So that is 56 on the books as of right now. You have probably realized about now that I love fabric and I do mean LOVE. I'm currently working on 4 memory quilts for a friend and her children, as well as a cross quilt that I picked as the blocks to receive as my time as queen in the Compass Quilters Bee. I just finished a quilt this week that I was testing for a designer and will get to show it off soon. I will also be showing some scrapbook pages and who knows what else.
Now that you've gotten to know me a little, let's talk about a giveaway. I was lucky enough to win not one but two copies of 100 block Vol 10, so I'm giving one away. It is packed with great blocks!!! I thought I would sweeten the pot just a little by adding a charm pack of Cookies and Cream by RJR Fabrics and an alphabet panel. I bought two assorted fat packs from Massdrop at the end of last year and both had the same panel in them. So I thought I would share one with ya'll. The selvage says it is Petite Fleur by Carolyn Gavin by Windham Fabrics. Since I'm not sure how I'm going to use mine, I would love to hear how you would use it.
The giveaway is open to everyone and all you have to do to enter is leave a comment. I love hearing where everyone is from, so why don't you tell me where you live and what the weather is like today. The giveaway will be open until noon (Central Standard Time) on February 15th and I will use a random number generator to pick a winner that afternoon/evening. Now you don't have to follow me to enter, but if you want to follow me there are buttons on the side for Bloglovin, Feedly and follow by email. If you've not checked out Vicki's site at 2 Bags Full, you really should the blog hop is huge and there are lots of people holding giveaways.

I'm from the Pacific Northwest. Tonight it's warmer and spring like weather is predicted for a few days this week.
ReplyDeleteWow 56 quilts on the books! I thought I was busy having 13 finished quilts and two on the go! Mind you I do have a lot of other projects on the go that aren't quilts so I could probably match that number if I sat down and thought about it! Very cute dogs you have there too! Have a great day. Sunshine Girl - Grow Your Blog section 24.
ReplyDeleteShauna, I love the pictures of you and your gang :) Cole's picture is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHoly wow girl! 56 quilts on the books? You and Sharla are going to be busy for a very long time :)

Hello. I love to look at what others are working on. I live in Alabama. It is in the 30s weather wise.
ReplyDeleteNortheast here and snowy! Love your Texas quilt! Not exactly sure what I'd make with the alphabet panel but I'm thinking I'd cut them apart and make bean toss bags for my grandson and help teach him the alphabet!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love the pictures of you and your gang! :) it's so nice to put a face with a name. I think keeping a project spreadsheet is a great idea and one I'm going to start immediately. I usually have an idea for the fabric I buy but by the time I get to it I forget what my original plan was!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm in West Virginia. We have snow on the ground but it is suppose to be sunny and warmer today.

ReplyDeleteHi there! I am from a small town located north of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada. Today we enjoy another sunny but crispy cold day, it is 10:00 in the morning and the temperature is -22*C. We also have about 3 feet of snow and it is so pretty sparkling like diamonds in the sun!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in southern Ontario Canada. It is very cold but the sky is a beautiful bright blue! Cold days make the house feel cozy - perfect for quilting! I would cut up the panel, frame it with complementary prints and maybe add a pieced sashing. The blocks are so cute. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI have been following you for a long time! The weather in western Colorado is partly cloudy and our high will be about 40 degrees which means I must go out and take a walk in the afternoon. Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI live in Norfolk, UK and it was cold but sunny today. I'm not quite sure what I'd do with the panel either, maybe a fabric book, with an applique page to go with each letter, apple, book, cat... Or a wall hanging.
ReplyDeletejen dot barnard at btinternet dot com
Lovely post, I learned more about you and your nig family! I would use the panel to make a quilt from my friend's beautiful Baby!

ReplyDeleteWOW... and here I thought my UFO list was big with 9 quilts on it.
ReplyDeleteFor that alphabet panel... I think it would be fun to take each individual letter, add coordinating fabric and make journal covers and then give them to friends and family as various gifting occasions arose. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win.
56 projects -- that's ambitious!! I live in Northeast Ohio, it's currently 21 degrees and there is a couple inches of snow on the ground.

ReplyDeletecork@pa.rr.com

ReplyDeleteI live in Dallas, but the one in Georgia :) that alphabet panel is cute! I think I would try to incorporate somehow going down the side of a quilt for my kids, depending on how big the letters were.
ReplyDeleteI live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia....it is beautiful today...sun is shining...but we are about to be hit with a winter storm tomorrow...hopefully it won't be as bad as what they say....
ReplyDeleteHi again, Shauna! So wonderful to meet you, your lovely family and special pups (of course part of the family, too!) on the GYB 2015 party :)
ReplyDeleteThough I don't quilt anymore unless "convinced" by quilt-less friends, I do love to read about what all you creative sewers get up to :)
I would nevertheless gladly accept if I were to win your lovely prize. Would they result in a quilt? Hmmm... hard to say, but they would definitely be awesome inspiration for my creativity ;)
Oh oh - I'm about to start making my first quilt. Does this mean I will have 56 waiting in the wings before long? Think maybe I'd better stick with crazy quilting!! Thank you for the invitation to visit. Enjoy the tour!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty blog you have here! Great blog design. I found you through the hop - you paid a visit to my blog. Thank you. What a generous giveaway you are holding. I'm in NC and it is variably cloudy and breezy here today.
ReplyDeleteI am an hour north of Portland Maine. There's currently a Blizzard warning in effect and the snow is supposed to start sometime after midnight--I'm really hoping for a snow day with a prediction of 18 to 24 inches of snow where I am! Right now its a whole 14 degrees but I'm inside with my woodstove to keep me warm. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm writing from just outside of Philadelphia -- 26 degrees, and supposed to snow 6-12 inches tonight and tomorrow! My kids are happy! I LOVE that alphabet panel! It begs to be made into a baby quilt, but I like the letters too much to waste it that way, so I'd probably cut them and use them individually, framing them with fabric and embroidery. The hallway to my children's rooms could use some! sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteI live in Indiana, the weather was cold today. But there was no snow today so I won't complain. I am a new follower via email, I look forward to your posts, have a great day! dawnm1993(at)gmail(dot)com

Hi Shauna! I'm visiting via GYB from Illinois. I'm also a quilter and traditional scrapbooker (though quilting has taken over my life these days). As for the panel, I think I'd set them against alternate blocks, maybe darker fabrics to make the alpha blocks pop!
